The latest on late eating….. come on, you know you won’t choose an apple or a bowl of Fiber One for your late night snack…
I read an article about diet myths….one being you shouldn’t eat late. This doctor says it’s not the late eating that’s the problem. The problem arises when you have already eaten three meals and you make eating before bed ’snacks’ a fourth meal. (and some of our ’snacks’ are bigger than what we normally eat for breakfast or lunch, you know it’s true) And usually what we choose to snack on late at night is not a healthy choice. In todays busy world there are many who work late shifts, and they are not all obese. It all comes down to what you eat, and how much….not when.
I try not to eat late because it upsets my stomach and leaves me absolutely ravenous in the morning! But I agree the total number of calories seems more important than when I eat them.
It’s true. I too try and not eat after 5 pm, but if I do, I make sure it is a good, and very small. like oatmeal.
I agree…
I stayed up late last night and was TRYING to hold out… but I was too hungry, so I had a half serving of Special K with skim milk around 10:30 pm. I weighed less this morning than I did yesterday morning!! (Not by MUCH, but still!)
I agree with this. All through the week I have a dayshift schedule. Then Friday and Saturday it is 3rdh shift schedule and then I don’t go to bed until Sunday night so I can go back to the day schedule. I eat at all kinds of odd times, but I DO choose fruit for my snacks. I also eat soups and salads. My meals are balanced and my snacks are light. I still lose weight. So, I agree that what it is and how much it is, is certainly more important that when it is eaten!
I agree with you Sandy! So true. I have such a problem with nighttime eating. I’ve been fighting it for well over 80 days now. It’s easier then before to resist, but the urge is still there.
Great info hon!

ain’t that the truth! it all is about the same things, yes? eat smaller amounts of good food and move you bod…:) so simple and yet so hard!!!
I agree, the trouble is I do it when I wake up from sleep, and am, upset. Then I stuff with whatever I find.
Yep…I agree too…its what we eat and how much. Its also maybe the time I feel most “deserving” beacuse I made it through the day…silly me
Yeah, that late-night demon kicked my butt for a while, until I learned that I could just have a damned GLASS OF WATER and feel fine.
I agree, and stick to a 100 calorie snack. But I do have it about an hour or two before bedtime, just to be on the safe side.
That’s so true! I find myself eating out of the fridge late at night, whatever i can find and not putting the food on a plate. so I don’t know how much I’m eating. It’s just a habit I have to try to kill. thanks for the good advice.
My brother recently told me the same thing, when I was lamenting the fact that I was eating dinner at almost 10. Now, I find that I am waking up starving when I eat early and don’t have a snack. Luckily all the good food has been retired and all that’s left is the healthy stuff. (LOL)
My book calls for Fiber One as well, but I just bought the book and no idea what to buy at the grocery store so I substituted. How does the fiber one taste? Do you use the recipes much?
Thanks that helps give me a perspective to remember.
I agree with this article. I always eat after 8 p.m. and I lost more than 31 kg for 3 years. But I have eaten “easy” food in the evening. It meens I try to eat less than 30% of day calories:) after 6 p.m.
I don’t know if it’s good or not, but I have my snack at about 9 or 9:30 pm. A 100 calorie Light Yogurt. Then we take the dog for a walk at about 11:00 pm.

Yes, I agree, Mother - oh wise one! The late night snack does tend to be the least healthful! And, perhaps, the largest portion, for me. If I can avoid it all the better! During my work week I try to eat dinner late… after 1:30 am - that way I’m still satisfied by the time I get home at 4:00 and not as tempted to forage. On nights when I do slip and eat when I get home I am much hungrier in the morning.
